17125 Joseph Ruddiman, Aberdeen 1797
A fine Scottish violin, an interesting example of the later work of Joseph Ruddiman, Aberdeen 1797, bearing its original label. The violin differs greatly from his prolific early work, which is usually pen purfled and follows the Amati or Stainer models. Here we see a more sophisticated violin showing a strong influence of Richard Duke Senior in the flatter arching, Strad model with better quality wood and inlaid purfling, yet still maintaining a scroll typical of the Aberdeen school.
The one piece back of narrow figure. The varnish of an aged red brown colour
Excellent restored condition.
